Web3 Innovation HUB
101179566 — W3IH — ERASMUS-EDU-2024-CBHE
Executive Summary
The Web3 Hackathon 2025, held from May 21st to May 30th, brought together motivated students from various academic levels and backgrounds to develop blockchain-based solutions addressing real-world challenges through the lens of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles. Organized by the Blockchain Laboratory at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences, University of Belgrade, within the Erasmus+ project Web3 Innovation Hub, the event successfully combined education, innovation, and collaboration.
There were 20 participants, organized into 8 teams - they engaged in a 9-day mentoring program, interactive workshops, and final project presentations. The Hackathon culminated in a competitive pitching event, where the top three teams were awarded for their innovative, impactful, and technically sound projects. The initiative further strengthened the collaboration between academia and industry, thanks to the support of key partners and sponsors such as Cirkuliranje, ETH Belgrade, and BuidlGuidl.
Purpose and Theme
The main goal of the Web3 Hackathon 2025 was to empower students to ideate and implement blockchain applications that reflect ESG values and support green innovation. The theme "Sustainable Web3 Innovations" challenged participants to think beyond technological feasibility and focus on creating responsible, scalable, and ethical digital solutions.
Structure of Event
MAY 21ST — Opening Ceremony & Ideation Workshop
The event officially opened with a welcome by Tamara Naumović (University of Belgrade – Faculty of Organizational Sciences), who introduced the Hackathon theme – Sustainable Web3 Innovations, presented the award structure, key partners, and the overall timeline of the competition. Participants also had the chance to meet their assigned mentors and receive initial guidance.
Immediately after the opening, the Design Thinking – Ideation Workshop was delivered by Ana Miličević (University of Belgrade – Faculty of Organizational Sciences), focusing on creative problem definition and idea generation aligned with ESG values.
MAY 22ND — Business Modeling Workshop
On the second day, a specialized session on developing Business Model Canvas for decentralized ecosystems was held by Tamara Naumović, equipping teams with the tools and frameworks to define their value propositions, stakeholders, and technological foundations.
MAY 23RD–29TH — Mentorship Phase
Throughout the next seven days, teams worked intensively on shaping and developing their projects under the guidance of experienced mentors. Mentors provided support in areas such as smart contract development, decentralized application architecture, UI/UX, sustainability integration, and pitch preparation.
For the final submission and pitch, each team had to prepare:
- Project Documentation (with a link to the project's GitHub)
- Project Presentation
- A demo recording of the App
MAY 30TH — Final Pitch Event & Closing Ceremony
The event culminated in a live pitching session held at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences. It was a hybrid format allowing participants to attend online as well.
The closing ceremony featured final remarks by Vladislav Petković (Cirkuliranje) and Dušan Barać (Vice Dean for Corporate Affairs and Innovations), who reflected on the importance of ESG-aligned blockchain innovations and expressed support for the continued development of the projects beyond the Hackathon.
All 8 teams successfully completed the competition and pitched their ideas to an expert jury composed of:
- Aljoša Makević (Attic42 & ETH Belgrade)
- Dušan Barać (FON)
- Uroš Šošević (FON)
Winners
🥇 1st Place – Team HiDAO
Team Members: Nikola Andreev, Uroš
Đorđević
Mentor: Milica Simić
The HiDAO (Health Insurance DAO) represents a paradigm shift in how health-related financial support can be organized and governed. Built on Ethereum and powered by smart contracts, this decentralized application (dApp) offers a transparent, community-driven alternative to traditional insurance providers.
🥈 2nd Place – Team MetaTourqe
Team Members: Aleksandar Joksimović, Hesam
Jafarzadeh, Radovan Marković
Mentors: Petar Lukovac, Prof. Marijana
Despotović-Zrakić, PhD
DriveChain proposes a decentralized alternative, an invention of a new blockchain-based solution that enables secure, tamper proof and immutable logging of all the service events in a vehicle. Leveraging smart contracts implemented on the Ethereum blockchain, stakeholders in the system — that is, car service centers, vehicle owners, car manufacturers, insurance companies and regulators — may input and retrieve time-stamped car maintenance records.
🥉 3rd Place – Team Obsidian
Team Members: Jakov Grbović, Magdalena
Budimir
Mentor: Tamara Naumović
SmartProperty is a decentralized application (dApp) designed to modernize and simplify the process of real estate transactions using blockchain technology, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles. In traditional systems, the process of buying and selling property is slow, opaque, and burdened with bureaucracy, often requiring intermediaries, extensive paperwork, and manual activation of essential utility services such as electricity, water, and internet.
