About the Workshop

Exploring how blockchain and Web3 technologies can transform academic research, scientific collaboration, and the future of knowledge sharing.

DeSci Workshop was held on December 23, 2025, at the Faculty of Economics, University of Montenegro, in Podgorica. Led by Aleksandar Kokotović, the workshop brought together 15 participants to explore the emerging field of Decentralized Science (DeSci) and its potential to reshape traditional academic research.

The session examined how decentralized technologies can address challenges in the academic research landscape, introducing new approaches to coordination, collaboration, transparency, and the exchange of scientific knowledge.

Key Topics

The workshop covered several key themes at the intersection of blockchain technology, Web3, and academic research:

  • Traditional Academic Research in the Marketplace of Ideas – examining how scientific knowledge is produced, shared, and evaluated within traditional academic systems.
  • Decentralized Science (DeSci) – introducing the principles of DeSci and exploring how blockchain and Web3 technologies can support more open and decentralized research ecosystems.
  • Disruption and Coordination in Academic Research – discussing how decentralized approaches can challenge established research structures and create new opportunities for coordination among researchers and institutions.
  • Practical Applications and the Future of Decentralized Science – exploring the potential real-world applications of DeSci and its implications for the future of scientific collaboration and knowledge dissemination.
